SP Tools is using its MEDCO training session to introduce distributors to several new products while also outlining the support available to independent tool sellers carrying the line.

The session highlights the company’s new Con-X Hybrid System, Quad Drive Dual Flat Wrenches, and several of its current buy-one-get-one offers. Attendees also get a closer look at the SP Tools Mobile Program and how the company works with MEDCO distributors.

Through its partnership with MEDCO, independent distributors have access to the complete SP Tools product line, as well as TEXA diagnostic and A/C equipment. The program supports both mobile tool distributors and brick-and-mortar sellers.

SP Tools also provides product training, sales and promotional support, quarterly rebates, BOGO opportunities, and access to its team for product and business support.

“We ride along with you. We are that point of contact for questions, concerns, features and benefits, and what makes the product work,” says Kinsman Pearson, director of training at SP Tools. “Then we take that to your customers as well.”

For distributors, those resources can become part of the sales strategy around the products themselves. Monthly promotions can give customers another reason to buy, while the company’s quarterly rebate program provides another opportunity for distributors to improve margins.

One system, two power sources

A large portion of the training focuses on the Con-X Hybrid System.

The system allows technicians to use the same interchangeable heads with either a cordless or pneumatic power source. The cordless option gives technicians portability, while the pneumatic option is intended for applications where continuous use and additional power are needed.

SP Tools is also demonstrating how users can switch from one head to another. The system currently has 14 different heads available, giving technicians the option to use one power source across multiple applications.

That gives distributors several points to discuss when introducing the system to customers.

Toolbox space is one. Rather than storing several dedicated tools, technicians can use the interchangeable system for different jobs. Distributors can also talk through which applications a technician handles most often, whether cordless or air power makes more sense for the work being performed, and whether having access to both would be useful.

SP Tools says the system is aimed at professional technicians who need flexibility without carrying as many individual tools, particularly in busy shops where efficiency and available storage space matter.

Supporting the business

The training also goes beyond products on the truck.

SP Tools brought Tool Truck Pros into its MEDCO booth to introduce attendees to a point-of-sale system developed for mobile tool distributors. The company says the addition is part of its effort to support other areas of a distributor’s business rather than focusing only on selling products.

“Probably one of the most important aspects of dealing with a manufacturer,” Kevin Hearn says of responsiveness. “If you have an issue, a question or problem that a rep can’t answer or has to go through the daisy chain, sometimes trying to call these guys isn’t even possible.”

Between the new Con-X system, hand tools, promotions, rebates, training, and additional business resources, the session gives attendees a better look at what is available through the SP Tools and MEDCO partnership.

For distributors, it also provides more context around how those resources can be used, whether the goal is bringing a new product to customers, creating another sales opportunity, or finding ways to strengthen the business behind the truck.
