FASTPORT's National Guideline Standard (NGS) CDL Apprenticeship has been approved by the Department Of Labor (DOL).
FASTPORT received the letter of approval from John Ladd of the U.S. Labor Office of Apprenticeship on Nov. 14, which was a "great way to start off National Apprenticeship Week," according to Brad Bentley, president of FASTPORT.
This progressive "umbrella" apprenticeship will enable any carrier to enroll under the DOL / FASTPORT NGS Apprenticeship thereby eliminating the expense, expertise, learning curve and time consuming process of approval that can take many months for an individual carrier. It also levels the playing field for small and mid-sized carriers.
This groundbreaking National Standard complements FASTPORT's selection as the DOL's Transportation & Logistics Sector Intermediary to help increase the number of apprenticeships and apprentices in the industry, according to Bentley.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Trucking Industry employers to initiate new CDL Apprentice Programs and work with FASTPORT to fill those apprenticeship positions with our military Veterans," Bentley said. "Working together as an industry, we can build a solid pipeline of new professional truck drivers from our military and greatly ease the burden of the chronic driver shortage."
