Atlantic Tower Services picks Trimble Driver Safety solution to mitigate risk on the road

Trimble announced that Atlantic Tower Services (ATS) is implementing the Trimble Driver Safety solution across its fleet of vehicles.

Trimble announced that Atlantic Tower Services (ATS), a full-service equipment maintenance, repair and installation service company that specializes in telecommunications infrastructure and electrical power generation, is implementing the Trimble Driver Safety solution across its fleet of vehicles. The selection of Trimble Driver Safety follows ATS’s implementation of Trimble Fleet Management, a cloud-computing platform that offers visibility into day-to-day field service operations.

By adding Trimble Driver Safety to its fleet management capabilities, ATS will have complete back-office analysis of aggressive maneuvers such as jackrabbit starts, hard braking, harsh turns and speeding, enabling management to coach poor drivers who put the company at risk. The Driver Safety in-vehicle hardware uses alerts to provide drivers with feedback about their driving behavior so they can make immediate changes to their driving style. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 2.3 million people were injured in motor vehicle accidents in 2013. The economic consequences of these crashes to employers have been estimated at more than $60 billion. Over time, Driver Safety can enable organizations to reduce accidents and lower liability costs and operational expenses.

"As one of the leading suppliers of tower, lines and antenna maintenance and installation in North America and the Caribbean, driver safety is an integral part of our culture,” says Karen Anderson, with ATS. ”We understand the consequences of poor driving and we chose Trimble Driver Safety because it identifies and monitors unsafe practices so we can quickly mitigate risks on the road. Making sure our drivers adhere to company safety policies is vital to protecting them and our business.”

“Creating a safe-driving culture has been the hallmark of ATS, and Driver Safety will support them in continuing this commitment," says John Cameron, general manager of Trimble’s Field Service Management Division. "Using Driver Safety, ATS can monitor driving performance while boosting productivity with reduced downtime and reduced driver injuries. Trimble Driver Safety can enable ATS to deliver on its goal of maintaining a safe-driving culture while improving efficiencies and overall ROI.”

ATS had initially equipped its service vehicles with Trimble’s Fleet Management solution. Fleet Management provides visibility into the progress of technicians, enabling field managers to make intelligent decisions on fleet performance and asset utilization based on real-time information. Fleet Management also allows ATS to auto-generate reports that detail gas consumption and vehicle stops so managers can coach their drivers on unnecessary idling and reduce fuel usage. The Fleet Management capabilities have allowed ATS to protect its assets as well. When a vehicle was stolen, ATS used the in-vehicle Trimble GPS to locate and recover the vehicle within hours of the theft.
