Making the complex simple

Martin is a graduate of the Canadian Interprovincial Apprenticeship system, qualifying as a Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic in 1989. He currently works in the mining industry as a mobile equipment maintenance trainer, but his resume also includes time spent owning his own mobile repair business along with 17 years’ teaching automotive and diesel technology on the post-secondary level. He holds an Associate’s degree in Diesel Technology and a B.S. in Technology Education from the University of Alaska, Anchorage.

“Automotive technicians are faced with solving electrical problems every day,” Martin told this reporter. “My class provides a solid understanding of how electricity works, how basic circuits are constructed and the techniques (they need) for making seemingly complex problems easy to solve.”

Martin shared not only the science of electrical troubleshooting, but the art of electrical troubleshooting, using personal experiences he learned as an apprentice technician. “The stuff I know best about electricity was learned the hard way,” said Martin. “And my purpose is to help folks by sharing these experiences and using them to illustrate the basic electrical concepts that every automotive technician needs to understand.”

No question that attendees of Martin’s session are going home ready to tackle future electrical challenges with confidence.
