The Trainer #114 - Troubleshooting With Thermal Imagery

Ever wish you could just look at your customer’s car and see the cause of their concern? In some cases, you kind of can - using a thermal imaging camera.

Thermal imaging, or thermography, is a non-contact technology that measures or “sees” light that the human eye can’t. It’s a form of radiation that we perceive as heat and refer to as “infrared” - which just so happens to mean “beyond red” - referencing the end of the visible electromagnetic spectrum - red light.

Techs have used the idea of "hot" or "cold" to assist in their diagnostics since forever but this technology, now more affordable to the average technician, allows you to see what you used to have to feel. And that ability to "see" the heat signature of different objects can be used to help solve a number of common customer concerns.
