Big-Time Boxes: Scott Fillius, Mac Tools

This 8' long setup features a tool cart dedicated to electronics and diagnostics.

Scott Fillius has been an automotive technician for 19 years, and for the past seven he’s worked out of a bright yellow, 8’ long by 6’ high, Mac Tools toolbox in his bay in New Jersey.

Each of the 20 drawers in the Macsimizer Series box are full of tools and organized precisely using tool organizers. (Perhaps the secret to this Master Technician keeping organized is his “No Tools Loaned” sign that hangs in the hutch.)

In the main box, Fillius keeps the first drawer stocked with sockets, then screwdrivers, prybars, wrenches, pliers and air tools.

“All the main stuff,” he says.

He says the Mac Tools toolbox drawers are his favorite feature compared to other toolbox brands because “you don’t have to do anything special to open the drawers ... [such as] lift the lever and all that stuff.”

The drawers of the box are so full that in 2016, Fillius added on a matching yellow Snap-on tool cart that he dedicates entirely to his electronics and diagnostic equipment, including scopes and scanner accessories. But it doesn’t stop there. He plans to add at least one side locker to the setup eventually to keep up with his tooling.

“It’s full to the max now,” Fillius says.

Even so, Fillius keeps the workstation under his hutch mostly clear. His Snap-on Verus Pro diagnostic scanner has a station up-top, along with his laptop, some batteries chargers hooked up to a Mac Tools power strip and his work lights.
