Big-Time Boxes: Eric Magana, Snap-on

Brand new with plans to expand.

Owner: Eric Magana

Shop: Auto Doctor

Location: San Leandro, Calif.

Eric Magana has worked on cars for the past 13 years. He began his career working on flat tires and replacing shocks.

He says he fell in love with working on cars, and because of this, he has spent the last three years of his career working as one of three technicians at Auto Doctor diagnostic and electric auto shop in San Leandro, Calif.

Magana purchased his Snap-on EPIQ toolbox this year. He says, “I think if you are working on cars, you better have a nice toolbox.” He also uses a Matco Tools tool cart because it is easy to move around and to have the tools in close proximity to the vehicle he works on.

His box, 12' long by 2-1/2' deep, is orange in color with black trim. He plans to extend his toolbox by adding a two-bay with hutch and additional top storage at the end of the year.

Magana's favorite tool is a Snap-on cordless gun. He likes it because he can carry it around the garage without needing air to work. He keeps his tools organized by tool type, storing his specialty tools in the larger box.

His favorite part of the toolbox is the hutch, where he currently keeps his guitar, in addition to his computer and other tools. In his hutch, he has a power strip where he can charge power tools, his laptop, his cellphone and more. "I like to be organized because if I want to find a tool, I don't need to dig in a mountain of tools."

“This box is a dream,” he says.
