The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is hosting a free webinar for service technicians on Friday, Jan. 15 at 4:00 p.m. ET entitled “The Impact of Upstream Air Leaks on Diesel Exhaust After Treatment.”

The American Trucking Association’s Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) recently added a new recommended practice (RP), designated RP 375 leak detection in engine systems utilizing visible vapor technology. Research related to this new RP shows that upstream component leaks, faults and unmetered air leaks in the engine system cause increased fuel delivery, altering the air/fuel ratio, prematurely clogging DPF filters and after treatment systems, which may result in a derate condition. These air leaks often contribute to increased maintenance and vehicle downtime.

Mark Hawkins, technical solutions manager for Redline Detection LLC, will discuss the background of RP 375, the findings related to it and troubleshooting steps for a pinpoint diagnosis.
