Toyota Prius Leaks Brake Fluid

May 20, 2022

A small internal brake fluid leak inside the brake booster assembly may be causing the brake, ABS and/or TRAC warning lights to illuminate on some 2011-2015 Toyota Prius and 2012-2015 Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles.

Some 2011-2015 Toyota Prius and 2012-2015 Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles may exhibit a condition where the brake, ABS and/or TRAC warning lights are illuminated and/or a Check VSC message displays.

DTCs C1391, C1252, C1256 and C1253 may be stored. This condition may be caused by a small internal brake fluid leak inside the brake booster assembly. If any of these DTCs are stored, remove and replace the brake booster assembly with master cylinder. Note that replacement booster/master assemblies are enhanced versions that feature a different part number than original.
