Colo. nonprofit auto repair shop opens second location

Hands of the Carpenter, a shop that fixes and provides cars for women, opened a second location in Aurora.

Hands of the Carpenter is an auto repair shop in Golden, Colo. that repairs vehicles at a discounted price for single mothers.

Last week, the nonprofit was pleased to open their second location in Aurora, according to 9 News.

"At the end of the day it’s not about the paycheck – it’s about whether or not I’ve had the opportunity to care about somebody and they know that," said technician Russell Bacon in the news release from 9 News.

"We’re here to serve because we get to. It’s not something that we have to do."

Having a second location will allow the nonprofit to serve twice the number of people they serve.

"For the women that we get a chance to serve, a car is the lifeline to be able to keep a job, to be able to get kids to school, to get to medical appointments, to get to the grocery store," said founder and CEO Dan Georgopulos in the news release.

Georgopulos estimates that they've served 3,000 people in their nearly 20 years of operation and that the second location will enable them to expand the type of clients they serve.

Discounts typically range from 35 to 50 percent.

Georgopulos noted that 20 women are currently waiting on a car, with seven or eight cars in line for those that need them.
