Tenneco announces aggressive expansion of CARB-compliant Walker CalCat converter range
Oct. 31, 2017
Tenneco today announced plans to introduce 80 additional Walker® CalCat® California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliant catalytic converters in 2018, more than four times the number of new CalCat SKUs rolled out over the preceding 12 months. The company also will continue to expand its offering of Walker Ultra® Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) compliant converters to cover millions of additional late-model passenger vehicles.
Expansion of the Walker CalCat range reflects Tenneco’s commitment to provide industry-leading converter coverage in the growing number of regions that have adopted CARB emissions standards. In addition to California, New York now requires the use of CARB-compliant replacement converters for millions of vehicles, and Maine is scheduled to adopt CARB standards for an estimated 680,000 qualifying vehicles beginning June 1, 2018.
“Our aggressive investment in Walker CalCat and Ultra converter coverage is designed to help our customers outperform the competition in one of the automotive service industry’s most promising categories,” said John Perrin, executive director of product management for Tenneco’s North America Aftermarket business. “Regardless of where a shop might be located, it’s our goal to provide fast, convenient access to the right Walker converter technology for any passenger vehicle it might have the opportunity to repair.”
The range of applications covered by Walker replacement converters includes early, pre-OBDII applications to the latest vehicles certified to the U.S. LEV1 SULEV (Super ultra-low emissions vehicle) classification. In fact, Tenneco recently became the first aftermarket converter supplier to receive California exemption for 125 popular LEV1 SULEV-certified light truck and SUV Models.
Walker CalCat converters comply with specific pre-OBDII and OBDII requirements in regions following CARB emissions standards. These units feature the right loading of precious metals, the proper catalyst material and design, and a high-technology washcoat, providing enhanced oxygen storage capacity. Many Walker CalCat converters offer direct-fit, original equipment-style designs and fitment – including hangers, flanges and brackets – to help shops save time.
Engineered for OBDII vehicles certified to U.S. EPA emissions standards, Walker Ultra converters feature the right loading of precious metals and a high-technology washcoat. Many of these units offer original equipment-style design and fitment, including hangers, flanges and brackets, to help technicians perform comprehensive, high-quality repairs in less time.
