Denso Corp. is adding four production lines and investing $190 million in its Athens, Tenn., facility as part of its effort to produce and deliver key parts to customers.

“Increasing our capacity to manufacture products closer to customers in North America will continue to power Denso’s growth in the region,” says Hugh Cantrell, director of administrative services for Denso Manufacturing Athens Tennessee. “This investment strengthens one of our key production centers. Athens has played a major role producing and supplying our customers with key components in fuel delivery, ignition, and exhaust gas systems.”

The additional production lines will be for gasoline direct injection (GDI) injectors, low pressure fuel pumps, and two for high pressure fuel pumps.

It comes as part of the company's commitment to expand its North American operations in the state. In September Denso announced a $1 billion investment in its Maryville, Tenn., facility, creating 1,000 jobs focused on electrification and safety systems.

The expansion in Athens will result in 320 additional jobs in production, facility operations, engineering, administration and other skilled-trades.

Denso has 25 manufacturing facilities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the company's North American sales totaled $9.6 billion.
