For the fourth consecutive year, Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center will support “Trading One Uniform for Another” (TOUFA), a nationwide program that awards scholarships to U.S. military veterans and first responders to use toward certification in automotive maintenance and repair. Nominations for scholarships can be submitted at quicklane.com/scholarships now through Dec. 6, 2019.
“We are proud to partner with the American Veterans and First Responders in awarding these scholarships, thanking them for their service and congratulating them on the pursuit of a career in automotive service and maintenance,” said Frederiek Toney, president, Global Ford Customer Service Division. Toney added that there has never been a better time to pursue a career as an automotive service technician due to the industry facing a severe shortage of technicians that is expected to last several years. Quick Lane will award three scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each to three U.S. military veterans or First Responders. These funds can be sued toward the payment of tuition, books and fees at any community college, university, trade or vocational school in the U.S. with an accredited program in automotive mechanics. Kory Hogan, a recent TOUFA scholarship recipient, encourages all who are interested to apply. “I served eight years in the Air Force as an aircraft post planner. I was responsible for all of the cargo aircraft leaving Charleston Airport,” said Hogan. “I currently work as a quality engineer and hope to learn more with an engineering and automotive background from the Six-Sigma program my TOUFA scholarship enabled me to participate in.” All 2019 scholarship recipients will be announced at this year’s Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit on Dec. 26.
