BendPak, Ranger announce R980DP swing-arm tire changer
The Ranger division of BendPak announced the R980DP Tire Changer, the first swing-arm changer with two power assist arms from the division. The changer also boasts a variety of exclusive features, as well as the ability to service anything from low-profile, run-flat tires to oversized truck wheels.
The right side's assist arm includes a new bead roller that presses down stiff beads to create room for a tire iron when demounting and keeps beads below the beak of the toolhead when mounting. The left side's articulating arm features a multi-function bird-shaped head that can be used as a traveling drop-center tool or as a tire hook, and it can be complemented with a hold-down-head accessory to allow outside clamping on low-profile tires and wheels or to act as a safety restraint device during inflation.
The R980DP utilizes a high-torque, high-speed electric turntable with a 3HP motor that provides a 20 percent increase in turntable speed and 43 percent more rated torque than other models. The R980DP-L, a 110V model, is also available with the same features for shops without 220V access.
The R980DP also includes a bead breaker auto assist device that dislodges and retracts the changer's pneumatic-powered blade after penetrating the bead, eliminating the need for technicians to manually remove stuck blades. The changer features a 45mm spring-assisted hex tool shaft and hardened outrigger arm for added stability and accuracy. The No-Mar RimGuard clamps can accommodate wheels ranging from 9" to 30" without damage.
The R980DP's hardened-steel mount/demount head prevents bead damage, and a protective polymer mount/demount head and plastic protector kit eliminate metal-to-metal contact. It uses industrial-grade pneumatic control valves, high-pressure polyurethane pneumatic tubing, forged steel pedals, a maintenance-free gearbox with a large oil and grease reservoir, a two-year warranty on equipment structure, and a year-long warranty on operating components and labor. The changers are available to purchase as standalone equipment or with the Ranger Select package, which includes professional installation and training for the equipment.
What people are saying
Dave Wiederschall, BendPak sales manager, national accounts, said, “As the technician population continues to age, and the shortage gets worse, Ranger is dedicated to developing equipment like the R980DP tire changer to reduce physical strain on techs while helping to improve their efficiency and shop throughput. It’s virtually impossible for most technicians to quickly change modern low-profile tires without help — either from a power-assist device or another tech. The Ranger R980DP tire changer’s two pneumatic assist arms give technicians the power boost they need to effortlessly handle the most demanding jobs.”
