Earlier this week Ford announced the formation of two distinct automotive businesses -- Ford Blue and Ford Model e.
"We are going all in," said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO, "creating separate but complementary businesses that give us start-up speed and unbridled innovation in Ford Model e together with Ford Blue’s industrial know-how, volume, and iconic brands like Bronco.”
Ford Model e will:
- Design, launch, and scale electric and connected products and services for retail, commercial, and shared mobility
- Develop technologies and capabilities such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling
- Create software platforms to support vehicles
- Technologies and concepts will be applied across the Ford enterprise
Ford Blue will:
- Continue to improve current Ford vehicles while investing in new models
- Deliver connected, personalized experiences through Ford Model e's software and embedded systems
- Reduce product, manufacturing, and quality costs
