Automated manual transmissions (AMTs) have become commonplace in the trucking industry. In fact, it is estimated that at least 65 percent of newly built Class 8 trucks are now equipped with an AMT.

AMTs and manual transmissions share many of the same core preventive maintenance practices. However, a handful of important differences do exist. As more AMT-equipped trucks begin making their way to service bays, it is important for fleets to understand what those differences are. Those differences may also help a fleet decide which type of transmission is best for its operation.
