Fleetmatics launches mobile app for Hours of Service management

Fleetmatics LogBook manages drivers' HOS by combining critical data from the vehicle with status updates made in the mobile application by the driver.

With the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate requiring commercial drivers to digitally manage their time behind the wheel (Hours of Service or HOS) just six short months away, the launch of LogBook for iOS by Fleetmatics, a Verizon company, puts HOS management in the palms of drivers' hands.

Fleetmatics LogBook manages drivers' HOS by combining critical data from the vehicle with status updates made in the mobile application by the driver. Drivers log into the mobile app and start driving while their HOS are logged automatically. Dispatchers and back-office teams also benefit from real-time HOS status, violation alerts, Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and more through Fleetmatics' web-based interface.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the ELD mandate applies to most drivers who are currently required to maintain records of duty status (RODS). The ELD rule is being implemented to allow for a safer, easier and faster way of accurately tracking and managing RODS data. Any commercial motor vehicle carrier or driver subject to the ELD rule must be electronically recording hours of service by the December 18, 2017 deadline.

"The ELD mandate is quickly approaching and drivers need a compliance solution that is simple to implement," said Todd Ewing, director of product management at Fleetmatics. "We manage the hardware installation and connection, allowing drivers to log in and see their real-time HOS status information and alerts, making compliance easier than ever."

Fleetmatics LogBook provides violations alerts - warning or notification of occurrence, access to timer icons, automatic driving status updates, vehicle information and three different views of the status log which include the mandatory DOT information. Feedback and support are also available through the application's interface.

Fleetmatics LogBook is compliant with current Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulation 395.15, and has also been designed to update based on future regulation requirements.
