Hadley recently released the results of a survey finding that drivers strongly preferred semi-trucks equipped with the Hadley SmartValve. Drivers polled overwhelmingly praised SmartValve for making their role in Drop-And-Hook operations safer, easier and more time efficient.

The survey was conducted in 2016 through a written questionnaire provided to fleet drivers after an evaluation period of driving with the SmartValve installed on one of the fleet’s own trucks.

With SmartValve, drivers do not have to struggle against the weight of the trailer when cranking landing gear, enabling them to go straight to high gear. By eliminating back strain from cranking landing gear, SmartValve addresses a top source of trucking injuries and dramatically reduces workers compensation claims.

With feedback from 56 drivers in 25 fleets across the United States and Canada, the survey found:

The average overall assessment was 9.4 out of a highest possible score of 10.

  • 96 percent stated that they prefer a tractor equipped with SmartValve.
  • 98 percent reported that SmartValve reduced their effort in cranking the landing gear.
  • 96 percent reported that SmartValve saves time in Drop-And-Hook.
  • Nearly three out of four (73 percent) drivers made fewer trips out of the cab during Drop-And-Hook.
  • 96 percent found the SmartValve to reduce backaches and risk of injury.

The survey included an opportunity for drivers and fleet managers to submit comments about the day-to-day impact of having a tractor equipped with SmartValve.

Those comments include:

  • “It has made my life easier and I would like to see this as a spec on all our tractors.”
  • “Every truck here should have this!!!”
  • “From a fleet manager’s perspective, I have seen a remarkable improvement in his (the driver’s) work ethic and attitude.”
  • “The system works great and is a blessing...”
  • “A 10+. Lifesaver. Thanks.”

“Results from the survey confirm what Hadley set out to achieve with the SmartValve”, said Brian Kujala, vice president of sales and marketing for Hadley. “By easing the strain that drivers experience during Drop-And-Hook, the SmartValve helps to retain drivers and keep them healthy. Fleets can recruit from a broader applicant pool because trucks equipped with SmartValve make Drop-And-Hook operations effortless and safer.”
