SAF-Holland is pleased to announce that U.S. Xpress is equipping 1,800 of its new Wabash National and Hyundai Translead trailers with SAF ULX40 Slider Suspension Axle Systems, complete with its New P89 Air Disc Brake.

SAF-Holland, a manufacturer of trailer suspension and axle systems, truck suspensions, fifth wheels, landing gear and coupling products, is pleased to announce that U.S. Xpress is equipping 1,800 of its new Wabash National and Hyundai Translead trailers with SAF ULX40 Slider Suspension Axle Systems, complete with its New P89 Air Disc Brake.

U.S. Xpress, Inc., headquartered in Chattanooga, Tenn., is the nation’s second largest privately owned truckload carrier. Since safety is at the forefront of its operation, the ULX40 equipped with the New P89 air disc brake was the ideal choice.

With the New P89, SAF-Holland is able to offer U.S. Xpress all the enhanced performance and safety advantages available with disc brake technology. In addition to superior braking performance, the P89 provides longer life and ease of maintenance for a lower total cost of ownership.

“The technology aboard our trucks has been placed there because we want our drivers to focus on the job at hand – safely and efficiently delivering our customers’ cargo,” said Gerald Mead, senior vice president of maintenance at U.S. Xpress, Inc. “The New P89 air disc brake technology allows us to further this commitment to safety.”

The ULX40 is a completely integrated, lightweight spring ride suspension and axle system. The New P89 air disc brake is comprised of reliable standard features including heavy duty vented rotors, premium bearings and seals, and the proven SAF SBS 2220 caliper – all with a five-year warranty.

“The new P89 air disc brake builds on the confidence that we have already established with SAF-Holland, having used the SAF suspension for over four years,” said Mead.

“Knowing that U.S. Xpress focuses on incorporating leading-edge technology, we are pleased that they chose our P89 air disc brake solution,” said Jeff Talaga, vice president of sales & strategic development, Americas, SAF-Holland, Inc. “We understand the high standard of quality they require, and appreciate the confidence they place in us.”

In addition to the ULX40 equipped with the New P89, U.S Xpress chose the award-winning Holland Atlas FastGear landing gear. This landing gear, with a speed nearly twice that of the nearest competitor at 1.8 turns per inch, of travel in high gear, cranks quickly to the ground to increase driver uptime by minutes instead of seconds, according to the company. Its lightweight design features a 170,000-lb load capacity and a 30,000-lb side-load capacity.
