Hyundai to launch pickup truck

The truck will be similar to a concept pickup shown at the 2015 Detriot Auto Show

Hyundai Motor Co. will begin development of a pickup truck to launch in the U.S., a first for the sedan-focused company.

The truck will be similar to a concept pickup shown at the 2015 Detriot Auto Show, Michael J. O’Brien, vice president of corporate and product planning at Hyundai's U.S. unit, told Reuters.

The news comes as Hyundai's U.S. demand for sedans has slide this year, with U.S. sales down nearly 11 percent.

"Our glasses are fairly clean," O'Brien told Reuters. "We understand where we have a shortfall."
