The Navistar International Ride and Drive event at the new Proving Grounds location in New Carlisle, Ind., gave press members an opportunity to get an up-close look at the ProStar fully equipped with the Bendix Wingman Fusion system.

The Wingman Fusion combines a suite of safety technologies – radar, camera, the vehicle’s brakes, and SafetyDirect by Bendix CVS – into a comprehensive driver-assistance system.

Other features include:

  • Electronic Stability Program
  • Stationary Vehicle Braking
  • Overspeed Alert and Action
  • Enhanced Collision Mitigation
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Overspeed Alert

According to the companies, this system is currently available exclusively through Navistar's heavy duty line of vehicles including the ProStar, TranStar and LoneStar models. This system is designed to help drivers avoid front-end collisions.

“The usefulness of stationary vehicle braking is best illustrated by imagining a stalled vehicle or a line of stopped traffic, which may not be immediately recognized by even a skilled, veteran driver,” said TJ Thomas, Bendix director of marketing and customer solutions, controls group. “Without Wingman Fusion’s automatic alert and braking, it may be too late to avert an impact.”
