Nissan to recall 841,000 vehicles globally over steering wheel problems

Nissan Motor Co. said that it would recall about 841,000 vehicles globally, including the Micra compact and the Cube, due to steering wheel problems.

Nissan Motor Co, Japan's second-largest carmaker, yesterday said that it would recall about 841,000 vehicles globally, including the Micra compact and the Cube, due to steering wheel problems.

The recall comes a few weeks after Nissan recalled 500,000 vehicles over faulty passenger side airbags.

Nissan will recall certain models of the Micra model produced in the UK and Japan between 2002 and 2006. It will also recall several other models that were sold in Asia, Japan, Europe, Oceania, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.

It will also recall the Cube mini MPV produced in Japan around the same period.

In a filing with the Japanese transport ministry, Nissan said that the bolt used in the steering wheel of these cars may not have been properly tightened and may prevent the wheel from functioning in the desired manner.

The problem has not resulted in any accidents, injuries or deaths so far, the carmaker said, and added that the fault will not lead to a sudden failure of the steering wheel.

Nissan said that the required repairs, which are expected to take around fifteen minutes, will be done free of charge.
