Honda, Nissan issue recalls in U.S., Canada

Honda said that in sub-freezing temperatures vehicles may shift out of park even without pressing the brake pedal. Separately, Nissan is also recalling 19,258 SUVs over potentially faulty brakes, reports The Detroit News.

Honda is recalling over 225,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada for a problem related to the brakes and transmission, reported CNN Money.

In the U.S., the recall affects about 128,000 Honda CR-V SUVs and 59,000 Odyssey minivans of model years (MY) 2012-2013 and 17,500 Acura RDX sedans of MY2013. In Canada, about 14,000 CR-V, 4,500 Odyssey and 2,300 RDX vehicles are being recalled.

Honda said that in sub-freezing temperatures vehicles may shift out of park even without pressing the brake pedal. No complaints, crashes or injuries have been reported related to the incident. Separately, Nissan is also recalling 19,258 SUVs over potentially faulty brakes, reports The Detroit News. The vehicles being recalled include the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder and JX vehicles from its Infiniti brand. These vehicles were built between December 2012 and January 2013 in Smyrna, Tenn. The front brake torque member was improperly cast during manufacturing which may lead to premature failure and cracking. The recall is expected to start in May.

Honda has been faced with several recalls in the past few months. In March this year, Honda recalled 76,253 Acura TSX vehicles for a fault with electrical systems. In the same month, Honda recalled around 250,000 vehicles globally citing some issue with brakes.

In January, the automaker recalled 835,000 units of 2009-13 Pilot SUVs and 2011-13 Odyssey minivans over faulty airbags.

In 2012, Honda recalled about 3.9 million vehicles globally, second only to Toyota, which recalled 5.3 million units. An alarming increase in the number of vehicles recalled by Honda in the recent past might raise questions about the automaker's quality control measures.

Nissan earlier this month recalled a total of 480,000 vehicles globally, all of which were manufactured in Japan between August 2000 and January 2004.
