Western Star Truck Sales has introduced new body-builder friendly options across its product line.

Designed to increase ease of body upfit; provide additional clean back-of-cab clearance; and increase operation efficiency between the chassis and body, the new body builder options include:

- 13-gallon diesel exhaust fluid (def) tank: The new 13-gallon DEF tank option increases frame space and reduces weight on the truck - ideal for dump and mixer applications, said Randy DeBortoli, director of engineering, Western Star. The smaller tank also increases back-of-cab clearance for ease of body upfit.

This option is available to order now on Western Star 4900 set-forward truck models with 123-inch BBC.

- Single man in-cab three-battery box seat: In addition to the current two man in-cab four-battery box seat, a new single man in-cab three-battery box seat is now available with three Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries mounted under the single passenger seat.

Providing additional in-cab storage space and room for larger controls, the battery cables are routed through the floor and under the deck, freeing up chassis space for fuel and body components.

The configuration also offers better protection against the harsh environment and regular stress loads experienced on batteries mounted outboard of the chassis rail, DeBortoli noted.

The in-cab three-battery box seat is now available to order on Western Star day cab and up to 40-inch sleeper truck models equipped with Detroit Diesel DD13 and Cummins ISX engines.

- End-of-frame controls and wiring for Allison 4500 and 4700 OFS: New end-of-frame controls and wiring are now available for all Western Star truck models equipped with Allison 4500 and 4700 automatic Oil Field Series (OFS) transmissions.

The most common application for this option is speed control of the truck’s engine while remotely operating body equipment at the back of the vehicle, said DeBortoli. This new option provides shift control and engine control wiring at the end of frame, which significantly reduces installation time of the body and lift equipment.

“By offering these new options, we’re making it easier for body builders to install their equipment using factory direct installations designed for trouble-free performance,” he said. “Body builders play a vital role in the success of our vocational customers, and we continue to look for ways to improve the efficiency and simplicity of body integration on our full line of products.”

Western Star Trucks Sales, headquartered in Fort Mill, SC. produces heavy duty custom trucks for long-haul and vocational applications.

Western Star is a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America which produces and markets Class 4 to 8 vehicles and is a Daimler company, the world's leading commercial vehicle manufacturer.
