Right to Repair Law Encounters Challenge
A lawsuit filed by OEM trade group Alliance for Automotive Innovation against Massachusetts' Right to Repair law is in court, according to the Auto Care Association.
The law, which state voters approved last fall by a margin of 75% to 25%, gives car owners - as well independent car repair facilities - access to telematically transmitted repair and diagnostic data.
The lawsuit seeks to overturn the law based on concerns around cyber security and other issues.
After the Massachusetts law was passed, Aaron Lowe, senior vice president, government and regulatory affairs for the Auto Care Association, said that the association "has worked with cyber security experts to ensure that in-vehicle data can be securely made available to car owners and independent shops."
