Mechanics Challenge to return to Automechanika Kuala Lumpur 2015
The Mechanics Challenge will again take place at the 2015 edition of Automechanika Kuala Lumpur which will be held March 19-21, 2015 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The challenge is open to all Malaysian mechanics employed by independent workshops and the grand finale will take place during Automechanika Kuala Lumpur. It is organized by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) and the Department of Skills Development of Malaysia (JPK), and supported by the Federation of Automobile Workshop Owners’ Association of Malaysia (FAWOAM), the Federation of Engineering and Motor Parts Traders' Association Malaysia (FEMPTAM) and Persatuan Pengusaha Industri-Industri Bengkel Malaysia (PPIBM).
“The Mechanics Challenge is a very popular event with Malaysia’s automotive industry,” said Fiona Chiew, Deputy General Manager, Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd. “It provides a platform for mechanics to demonstrate their automotive knowledge and problem-solving capabilities in ‘real world’ repair challenges with correct tool usage. It also encourages the sharing of knowledge about the use of the latest high quality tools among teams and sponsors. Furthermore, for sponsors, it is an ideal opportunity to increase market exposure of their products and services.”
Continuing their “diamond” sponsorship of the Mechanics Challenge is Shell, the global petro chemicals company, which is providing car products. In addition, car manufacturer Mazda will again supply vehicles for the mechanics to work on during the final round of the competition. Shamsuddin Amran, Divisional Manager, Aftersales, Bermaz Motor Trading Sdn Bhd said: “After successful sponsorship of this event in 2013, we are delighted to sponsor it again as it helps us to enhance our brand image with exposure to our target market using Automechanika Kuala Lumpur’s promotional resources.”
For the first stage of the Mechanics Challenge, mechanics from 14 states will take a written multiple choice exam. Then, the eight teams with the highest scores will be selected for the Mechanics Challenge final round. In addition to a written exam, finalists will have to diagnose and repair car malfunctions using the highest quality workmanship within a prescribed time frame.
The Mechanics Challenge champion team will receive RM 7,000 cash, a trophy and certificates. Runners up will receive the following prizes:
• First runner-up: RM 5,000 cash, certificate and trophy
• Second runner-up: RM 3,000 cash, certificate and trophy
• Fourth to eighth placing: RM 1,000 cash and certificate.
