Boots

Charlie Arroyo, general manager, Redback Boots USA, a provider of work boots and safety footwear (www.redbackboots.com), says that 30 percent of all disability claims are from foot injuries to employees.

"This number is rising and the need for safety footwear is prominent in any shop," Arroyo says. "The shop environment is one of unsuspecting elements that can change on a daily basis and keeping your feet safe is just the beginning of being a productive employee."

Gloves

"When workers are wearing the right hand protection they can not only prevent injuries – they can also have a better, more productive day at work," says Joe Kubicek, president and general manager, Ansell Single Use Global Business Unit (www.ansell.com).

Welding protection

"Welding helmets are important because they shield your face and eyes from sparks and from infrared rays emitted by the welding arc, making it easy and safe to weld behind a protected lens of your choice," says Eva Martin, marketing and communications manager at ArcOne, a welding, personal protection and safety equipment provider, (www.arc1weldsafe.com).

Spill mats

Spill mats allow absorption of dangerous chemicals and liquids that can cause a spilling hazard in the shop.
