John Watkins of Mayfield, Ky., a U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the USS Spartanburg County, has received a $1,000 scholarship to pursue his education as an automotive repair professional.

Watkins’ scholarship award was made possible through a donation by Chuck Udell, senior partner, Essential Action Group, to honor U.S. military veterans who have applied for scholarships through the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) Scholarship site.

“I am proud to sponsor this award that supports veterans who have served our country and are now seeking civilian careers in the aftermarket,” Udell says. “Our industry boasts many veterans who make vital contributions every day to the advancement of the aftermarket.”

Additional scholarship funding comes from industry contributions from individuals, companies and foundations. Contributions can be made to the GAAS Scholarship Fund, c/o Susan Medick at AAIA, at 301-654-6664, or susan.medick@aftermar ket.org.
