Repairing Jeep Intake Manifold Port

This bulletin applies to 2016-2017 Jeep Wrangler vehicles built on or after April 20, 2016, and on or before Nov. 30, 2016, and equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine.

This bulletin applies to 2016-2017 Jeep Wrangler vehicles built on or after April 20, 2016, and on or before Nov. 30, 2016, and equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine.

The MIL may be on accompanied by DTC P0441 (EVAP purge system performance). This may be caused by excess flash material from the intake manifold purge port.

1. Remove the engine cover.

2. Locate the purge hose connection at the intake manifold.

3. Disconnect the air cleaner assembly.

4. Remove the throttle body.

5. Remove the hose from the intake manifold. Using a mirror and a light source through the intake port, inspect the inside of the purge port for flashing.

6. Was flash debris found? If yes, proceed with the repair procedure. If not, reassemble and continue with normal diagnostics.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Insert a clean towel into the intake manifold opening to catch flash debris. Be sure to insert the towel far enough into the opening so that the leading edge is past the purge port on the intake.

2. Insert a T-handle with a four mm (5.32) drill-bit into the purge port to beak away any flashing and use a throttle plate cleaner or any sensor-safe solvent. Do not use brake clean. Spray through the port to clear any debris that may break away. After rotating the drill bit with the T handle several times, use the drill bit to loosen any separated flash debris from the port. 3. Using a mirror and light source through the intake manifold, re-inspect the purge port. If flash is still present, repeat step two until all flash is removed.

4. Reconnect the purge line and reassemble. Clear any DTCs that may have set in any module.
