The gear shift lever rear shaft assembly on manual transmission equipped 2009-2013 Suzuki Grand Vitara vehicles can come apart resulting in an inoperative shifter.
The new shaft diameter has been increased to 0.55 inch (14mm).

Applying excessive force to the shift lever can cause this damage. The rear shift shaft assembly has been redesigned. The new shaft is larger in diameter and the shaft’s control joint assembly uses a stronger press fit to hold the assembly together. The early shaft assembly is no longer available. The early shaft assembly is P/N 28101-78K01. The new upgraded assembly is P/N 28104-78K03.
