Some 2007-2012 Toyota Tundra trucks may exhibit a rubbing or grinding noise from the rear when making turns. New parking brake pad sub-assemblies have been developed to address this condition.
Test drive the vehicle and confirm the condition by making left- and right-hand turns. Once the condition is confirmed, place the vehicle on a lift and remove the rear wheels and rotors then check for any irregular contact on the brake plate from the rotors. If there appears to be irregular contact from the rotor to the brake plate, replace all parts specified in the special service part bearing kit (including the parking brake backing plate).
Settle the parking brake shoe and disc. Drive the vehicle for about 0.25 miles at about 31 mph on a dry level road. Depress the parking brake pedal. Repeat the procedure 2 or 3 times. Stop and depress the parking brake. The vehicle should hold position with 6-9 clicks of travel. Test drive again and make left and right turns to confirm that there is no more noise.
