Codes may include P0106, P0236 or a repeat P0128. These conditions may be caused by a wiring concern in the signal return splice.
Using IDS service tool or another scan tool, check for DTCs.
Does the PCM only have P0128 stored? If no, proceed to Step 4. If yes, proceed to Step 3.
Is the coolant level full? If no, fill the system using the vacuum cooling system filler procedure (see section 303-03 in the service manual). If yes, proceed to Step 4.
Replace the signal return splice using the wire, lead-free solder, heat shrink tubing and instructions supplied in the wire splice solder repair kit. The kit is available as P/N CU5Z-14A411-A. Use Motorcraft orange coolant VC-3DIL-B.
