Some owners of 2010-2015 Chevy Camaro SS vehicles equipped with a 6.2L L99/LS3 engine may complain about a belt squeak noise and/or a crankshaft balancer that appears to be out of balance or wobbling. In most cases, the wobble is an optical illusion because the design of the balancer gives the appearance that it is moving more than it actually is.
1. With the engine off, push the crankshaft all the way to the rear of the engine.
2. Using a magnetic base dial indicator, mount an indicator so that the measuring tip is contacting the rear of the drive belt groove (or at the face of the balancer).
3. Manually rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees and note the total amount of crankshaft balancer runout. If runout is 0.0157-inch or less, do not replace the balancer because of runout. If runout is greater than specification, replace the balancer and perform Step 3 again to verify.
4. If belt squeak was part of the initial complaint, also replace the drive belt.
