Find the Source of Knocking, Buzzing in a Camaro

Some owners of 2009-2014 and later Chevy Camaro vehicles equipped with a 6.2L supercharged engine may experience a rattle or knocking noise at mid-to-high mileage, especially prominent at idle, and/or a screeching noise especially when cold.

Some owners of 2009-2014 and later Chevy Camaro vehicles equipped with a 6.2L supercharged engine may experience a rattle or knocking noise at mid-to-high mileage, especially prominent at idle, and/or a screeching noise especially when cold.

A buzz noise (similar to a heat shield buzz) at a narrow RPM band between 700-1300 RPM may also be heard. A light to moderate noise at idle that sounds like marbles in the supercharger may also be heard, with the sound going away when engine speed increases to about 1200 RPM.

The cause may be contamination of the lube grease within the supercharger that may cause the bearing to make noise. If the condition exists and is left unaddressed, the bearing may overheat and cause damage to the supercharger.

Replace the supercharger front cover. Note: On vehicles built prior to 2014 that have not had a service replacement supercharger installed after November 2013, replace the supercharger.
