Some 2010 Mazda3 2.0L and Mazda5 2.3L vehicles may experience a MIL on with DTC P2096:00 (target A/F feedback system too lean). This is caused by improper control logic of the PCM. To repair the problem, the control logic of the PCM has been changed.
1. Reboot the IDS to clear memory before reprogramming.
2. Using IDS 76.05 or later software, reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration by following the “Module Reprogramming” procedure. Always update the IDS tool first, then follow the on-screen instructions to download the needed calibration file for PCM reprogramming.
3. It is not necessary to remove any fuses or relays when the IDS screen prompts you to do so. You may accidentally stop power to one of the PCM terminals and cause the PCM to be blanked. Make sure that battery charge is not above 20 amps to avoid damaging the PCM. After reprogramming, it is no longer necessary to road test the vehicle in order to relearn KAM (keep alive memory).
