This bulletin applies to 2007 Volkswagen Passat Wagon models. After installing a new parking brake switch, the electronic parking brake (EPB) may not respond, with a warning light on.

One or more of the following fault code entries are logged in the EPB electronic parking brake system:

    CODE                            DESCRIPTION

    02443 008………………Control panel implausible signal

02443 012………………Control panel electric fault in the circuit

01299 004………………Diagnosis interface for data bus no signal

    01487 008………………System test implausible signal

According to VW, do not replace the EPB control module.

A failure of the electronic parking brake switch can lead to a software problem in the EPB control module, even after a switch replacement.

A new switch from production date –2606- must be installed. The production date is located on the switch, above the part number. The first three numbers show the production day and the last number is the year. The replacement switch is available as P/N 3C0927225B REH.

Perform a terminal 30 reset of the EPB control module as follows:

    • Switch the ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect the battery.
    • Wait at least 10 seconds and reconnect the battery.
    • Switch the ignition ON.
    • While depressing the brake pedal, operate the electronic parking brake twice.
    • Read fault memory. Faults should be sporadic and therefore possible to delete.
    • Delete the fault memory.
