After replacing a transaxle or reprogramming the PCM/TCM, a specific procedure is required to reset and relearn the adaptive learning.

The PCM or TCM contains logic to adjust solenoid duty and line pressure as needed to compensate for normal clutch wear over the life of the transaxle. After replacing and automatic transaxle or reprogramming or exchanging a PCM/TCM from another vehicle, adaptive values must be reset in order to provide optimum shift quality.

Using a Hyundai GDS, select the VIN and A/T menu. From the main screen, select the “Option Treatment.” Select “Resetting Auto T/A values” and follow the screen prompts. Turn the ignition key off for 10 seconds. After the adaptive values have been reset (erased), and adaptive learning procedure must then be completed. Select VIN and A/T. Select Current Data and “Throttle Position.” Drive the vehicle until the ATF temperature is within the specified range (refer to the service manual, but the average is about 200 degrees Fahrenheit).

Request an assistant to monitor the GDS tester. Accelerate from a stop at the specified TPS angle (refer to the service manual, as angles will range for specific models from 10-13% to 25-35%) while the transmission shifts through gears 1-2-3-4-5-6 and then decelerate slowly to a stop. Remain stopped for five seconds, and repeat this acceleration/deceleration procedure five times 0(note: hold the accelerator pedal steady during upshifts).

If additional adaptation is needed, perform the following additional procedures:

* Perform several sequential downshifts (5-4, 4-3, 3-2 and 2-1) at small to moderate throttle openings.

* Perform several skip shifts (6-4, 5-3, 3-1) at moderate to large throttle openings.

* With the vehicle stopped, move the shift lever from P to N to D and back, stopping three to five seconds in each gear. Repeat this five times.
