Headrest deployed without crash

Some 2010-2011 model year Lexus GS 350/450h/460 vehicles may exhibit a condition where the active headrest activates without a collision event, causing a poor appearance. This condition may be present on both front seats. A revised Active Headrest Lower Unit has been developed to address this condition.

NOTE: If the active headrest is deployed, the front seat headrest assembly, No. 2 seat adjuster control cable assembly and the active headrest lower unit must be replaced.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Visually confirm the condition by examining the front seat headrests. If a headrest is extended or deployed (not caused by a collision), this TSB may apply. If not, follow the repair manual and/or collision repair manual for additional diagnostics.
  2. Remove the front seat headrest assembly, No. 2 seat adjuster control cable assembly and active headrest lower unit. Refer to the repair manual.
  3. Replace the front seat headrest assembly, No. 2 seat adjuster control cable assembly and NEW active headrest lower unit.
