Some 2013 Ford Fusion vehicles may exhibit a gurgle, sloshing, percolating or tapping noise from the fuel tank area while idling, stopping or during slow maneuvers. The condition is only present with the fuel tank level 7/8 or above.
1. Determine the type of powertrain. If FWD, proceed to Step 2. If the vehicle is AWD, determine the build date. If the build date is on or before 2-8-2013, proceed to Step 4. If built after 2-8-2013, this procedure does not apply.
2. Is the vehicle equipped with a 1.6L gasoline turbocharged direct injection (GTDI) engine?
a. Yes…proceed to Step 3
b. No….proceed to Step 4
3. Connect the IDS service tool and determine emissions level from the vehicle specification screen. Is the vehicle equipped with Federal Emissions?
a. Yes….determine the vehicle build date. If the vehicle build date is on or before 5-14-2013, proceed to Step 4. If built after 5-14-2013, this procedure does not apply.
b. No….install the resonator kit and the fuel tank.
