Owners of certain Audi vehicles may complain about intermittent or no drive at startup when selecting driving mode D or R; and the vehicle may enter limp mode (can only be driven in 3rd gear). This delayed engagement when cold or no-drive on first engagement may be accompanied by DTC P2700, P2701, P2702, P2703 or P0730.
Models affected include 2010 A4 with 0B6 gearbox, 2008-2010 A5/S5 with 0B6 gearbox, 2008-2010 A6 with 09L gearbox, 2008-2010 A8 with 09L or 09E gearbox, and 2010 Q5 with 0B6 gearbox.
In rare circumstances, if the vehicle was in motion and the ATF strainer becomes loose, the transmission may go into limp mode and can only be driven in 3rd gear.
In cold conditions, the gearbox shifts with a depay. In hot conditions, suction noises occur.
The following DTCs may be stored in the transmission control unit:
P0730 (transmission monitoring incorrect gear ratio)
P2700 (clutch A implausible)
P2701 (clutch B implausible)
P2702 (clutch C implausible)
P2703 (clutch D implausible)
Because of a design change, the ATF strainer can come loose from the guide of the ATF pump intake duct. As a result, air can be drawn in. Air causes the oil to foam, which prevents the clutches from closing completely. An optimized ATF filter was developed as a solution.
