After servicing the AFS (adaptive front lighting system) on 2010-2011 Mazda3 vehicles, the headlights may swivel during cornering but do not return to the center position. The AFS warning light also flashes.

After servicing the AFS (adaptive front lighting system) on 2010-2011 Mazda3 vehicles, the headlights may swivel during cornering but do not return to the center position. The AFS warning light also flashes.

This is caused by a bulb connector that must be aligned vertically but may have been aligned horizontally during service work. As a result, the connector interferes with the headlight housing during swiveling and sticks.

Verify the direction of the bulb connector after removing the cover.

If it is facing horizontally, disconnect the connector by turning counter-clockwise and re-align it vertically.

If the connector is already facing vertically, this information does not apply. Refer to the workshop manual for troubleshooting.
