This TSB applies to 2009-2011 Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia, and 2009-2010 Saturn Outlook models. If the customer complains about a squeaking or squawking noise at the front of the vehicle that is most noticeable in cold temperatures, and occurs during suspension travel, the cause is likely a slipping/sticking front strut jounce bumper rubbing against the strut’s piston rod.
Pull the dust boot/jounce bumper assembly out of the strut mount jounce cup (1).
Slide the dust boot/jounce bumper assembly down to expose the top portion of the piston rod. A long screwdriver or prybar may be required to pop the assembly from the mount cup.
Apply grease (GM P/N 12345579) around the circumference of the piston rod only in the exposed area (to the top one-inch of the rod, measured from the bottom of the mount cup).
Raise the dust boot/jounce bumper assembly up to the mount cup.
Rotate the dust boot/jounce bumper assembly on the piston rod to ensure that grease is distributed around the rod.
Re-seat the dust boot/jounce bumper assembly into the mount cup.
After re-seating the assembly to the mount cup, the vehicle should be driven over a road surface that will input sufficient jounce travel into the suspension, which will aid the dust boot/jounce bumper assembly into the mount cup (speed bumps, driveway entrance, or other bumpy surfaces).
