Natural Gas Vehicle Institute (NGVi) announced the release of its NGV Technician and Fleet Operations Safety Training as an e-learning option.

Natural Gas Vehicle Institute (NGVi), the ASE CASE-accredited leader in technical training for the CNG and LNG industry, announced the release of its NGV Technician and Fleet Operations Safety Training as an e-learning option. The course, designed for NGV technicians and other fleet or dealership operations personnel, is accessible through an interactive learning management system, providing students with a convenient way of learning independently and at their own pace.

NGV Technician and Fleet Operations Safety Training is the foundational course for every natural gas vehicle technician. Like its classroom equivalent, the e-learning course provides students with fundamental information they need to both understand and safely work on and around CNG and LNG vehicles.

“Because of the unique properties of natural gas and the fuel system components of natural gas vehicles, even seasoned vehicle technicians need this essential training before they begin maintaining NGVs,” says Leo Thomason, executive director and lead instructor at NGVi. “CNG-powered vehicles require high-pressure fuel systems with very different operating characteristics than gasoline or diesel vehicles,” he added. “While these vehicles are extremely safe, it is essential that technicians understand the fuel system components and basic safety procedures like depressurization and defueling.” These topics and more are all covered in the e-learning course.

“Fleet and dealership safety start with high-quality CNG and LNG training--not just product familiarization like that provided by manufacturers--but comprehensive training developed specifically to ensure safety that covers all manufacturers’ products. Our ASE CASE-accredited training caters to the ever-evolving need to keep NGV technician skills up to date and e-learning provides a more accessible and convenient means to deliver this important content,” says Annalloyd Thomason, vice-president and general manager of NGVi. “So, convenience, cost-effectiveness and flexibility were factors used when NGVi considered the e-learning format for this popular course. The nature of the e-learning format--with its 24/7 availability--makes it more flexible for technicians to obtain and fit training into their demanding schedules,” she adds.

NGV Fleet Operations Safety E-Learning is approximately two hours in length and is organized into eight modules. The course is self-paced with a quick knowledge check following each module, and final exam at the end of the course. Individuals who complete the course, and pass the exam, receive an NGVi certificate of completion.

Details about the training are available on the NGVi website at http://www.ngvi.com/NGVtechnician_elearning.html.
