Ride Height: The First Step in Tire and Suspension Care

Discover how ride height directly impacts alignment, tire wear, and suspension geometry — and why ignoring it can lead to costly comebacks.
Aug. 27, 2025

In this Tech Tip Short, Erik Screeden, technical and multimedia director for Motor Age, explains why ride height alignment should be the first step in diagnosing tire wear and steering suspension repair issues. He highlights how changes in ride height can significantly impact MacPherson strut geometry and SLA suspension setup, affecting critical angles like camber and caster.

Screeden demonstrates how even small drops in ride height can lead to alignment problems and uneven tire wear — issues that can’t be fixed without addressing the root cause. He also shares how components like Duralast loaded struts help restore and maintain OE ride height, supporting better handling and tire longevity. Watch the full video for insight on how to identify and correct these often-overlooked suspension problems. Learn more about ride control here.
