NHTSA closes Ford, Hyundai auto defect probes

NHTSA investigated defective engine cables on Taurus and Sable cars; NHSTA investigated loose fastener complaint on Hundai Sante Fe SUVs.

Safety regulators closed an investigation into defective engine cables in more than 467,000 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable cars after Ford Motor Co. said it would fix the problem without issuing a recall, according to Reuters News. NHTSA also closed an eight-month investigation into 70,000 Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs. The agency launched the investigation into the 2011 model-year vehicles after a driver submitted a complaint reporting a loose fastener in the vehicle's steering shaft.
