CHICAGO — Raybestos Powertrain is setting itself apart from other transmission part suppliers by getting in a groove.

Or a series of grooves, rather.

The company at Automechanika Chicago is showcasing the Raybestos HT, which it describes as a new generation of friction clutches that seamlessly combines the fluid dynamics of segmented friction lining with the strength and durability of a full friction ring.

It is available for purchase starting this week.

Pete Santiago, specialty account manager, said the groove technology sets the HT apart. It handles higher temperature and torque, “and the shift feel is phenomenal. You can barely feel the shift.”

The HT currently serves the U660 Toyota and A750 Toyota, but Santiago adds that it eventually will be in all clutch plates in the inventory.

In addition to the HT, Raybestos Powertrain is sharing its GPX and GPZ lines. The GPX solves shift feel and chattering issues in Hondas, Santiago says, via the GPX’s material and pattern. The GPZ is geared for high horse power diesel trucks, and keeps plates from warping.
