Bridging the gap

Welcome to the first POWERTRAIN PRO supplement to Motor Age, designed to bridge general repair and transmission work through collaboration, education and diversification.

Welcome to the first POWERTRAIN PRO supplement to Motor Age, designed to bridge general repair and transmission work through collaboration, education and diversification. ATSG’s partnership with Motor Age to produce this publication is in its early stage of development with its goal to help grow the industry.

It is no secret that the automotive industry has changed dramatically. Not even a muffler shop can remain an exclusive exhaust system specialty shop. It seems that the majority of specialty shops of any kind have moved on to other types of repair in order to stay profitable. Fight it all you want or find someone to blame, but at the end of the day, this is where the industry has (past tense) gone.

This means the shop’s real focus should be about being the best. To build trust and satisfaction with customers is a difficult and respectable task. From a customer’s viewpoint, if a shop fixed my car right, why go anywhere else? If they fixed my transmission problem the first time, maybe they can fix my engine problem, too? So for a shop to expand into other areas of automotive repair to meet that kind of response will require training and the right tools. With Motor Age’s publication now having added solid automatic transmission content in the POWERTRAIN PRO section from ATSG, you now have a monthly technical resource regarding near all aspects of the vehicle. Not to mention that this monthly publication also points to a vast amount of information on the website MotorAge.com. Past webinars and articles for both the technician and the shop owner are at your disposal. Ideas on marketing to automotive tech with answers to common and not-so-common problems can be obtained to help grow your business.

The idea behind this supplemental issue of POWERTRAIN PRO is to provide concentrated automatic transmission technical information to aid in your success as well as showing you some of what Motor Age brings in its technical content. This augmented aspect of POWERTRAIN PRO continues with technical information regarding various aspects of automatic transmissions problems with solutions. Valve bodies, torque converters, transfer cases, electrical diagnostics, buss communication, re-flashing and ABS controls are some of the subject matters in this first supplemental issue of POWERTRAIN PRO.

As is with any business, expansion should not be in quantum leaps but with realistic goals. Much like this POWERTRAIN PRO publication, no quantum leaps, but rather a sure footed focus on the direction we are headed. That is, ATSG’s partnership with Motor Age and POWERTRAIN PRO are dedicated at providing technical information bumper to bumper from experts in their field. With this type of resource, a shop owner can determine the direction that is best for his or her shop to grow into expanding its services. With this type of resource a tech or techs have access to an array of training and technical tips 24/7. All of it backed by sponsors and advertisers so it comes at no cost to you.

This is why we call this initiative collaboration, education and diversification, and we welcome any input you have of the type of tech you need to see more of. This is just a start, and we look forward to helping your company grow contributing to your prosperity and success.
