Tool Review: Noregon Systems JPRO Professional
Noregon Systems subscription-based JPRO Professional software with the 2016 v2 update includes the Next Step feature, which allows users to read and diagnose an entire truck in one pass, in under one minute, from one screen by providing technicians over 44,000 OE level fault codes and detailed repair information. With an emphasis on easy-to-understand graphical interface, vehicle systems are listed and can easily be seen in one location on one screen, and FMI assistance has been added to easily find, read and understand FMI definitions. Improved functionality was also placed on Cummins and Detroit Diesel engines, as well as heavy duty emissions fault support. Users now have the ability to read and clear HDOBD and emission faults. Additional features such as fuel injector calibration and increased bi-directional capabilities are also included with this version.
The review
The word “fast” is used early and often when Travis Whitehead talks about Noregon JPRO Professional diagnostic software.
The service manager at Greensboro, NC-based McCarthy Tire Service says he greatly appreciates that JPRO works on a wide range of heavy duty vehicles, and it allows him to obtain access to troubleshooting codes for any sub-system on that vehicle quickly and easily.
“This tool does it all, it’s all rolled into one, and it gives you everything you need to know in a matter of seconds after you plug it in,” says Whitehead. “It’s really fast.”
According to the service manager, he and others at McCarthy Tire Service conduct quite a bit of preventive maintenance service work and alignment work on vehicles. In addition, he uses JPRO for brake work, wheel-end work, resetting dashboard lights, exhaust gas recirculation diagnostic testing and other diagnostic work.
The facility sees a number of fairly large carriers, many of which run International ProStar product and Freightliner Cascadia vehicles. JPRO, he says, serves as a convenient means to provide him with the requisite information he needs to advise clients on what they should do with their vehicles.
“It is a great tool for a shop that’s servicing medium-sized fleets,” says Whitehead, adding that the setup of the tool is quite fast as well. “This tool, when you hook it up, is a one-stop shop. It connects to (the) VCM that truck has, and it gives you feedback from every message center.”
Another significant benefit of using JPRO, continues Whitehead, is that it allows for him to print out a report and give it to his customers. This allows for those customers to see a “snapshot” of the vehicle to determine whether or not they immediately want a problem addressed.
“It’s also really user-friendly,” he adds. “It’s just plug and go.”
While Whitehead can perform manual diesel particulate filter regenerations on certain vehicles using JPRO, he says he wishes it allowed for him to do so on every vehicle that enters McCarthy Tire Service.
Overall, Whitehead thinks quite highly of the latest version of Noregon’s JPRO Professional diagnostic software.
“It pretty much does what I expect it to do,” says Whitehead. “It’s lived up to its expectations, and so far I have no complaints. The biggest thing is its fast. That’s what amazes me, is just how fast you can utilize it.”
