Preparing for the busy season

As summer repair volume increases, technicians and shop owners are looking for tools, equipment, and training that help improve efficiency, accuracy, and productivity in the bay.

Summer tends to bring a different kind of pace into the shop.

Repair volume picks up, bays get hotter, schedules get tighter, and technicians are expected to move faster without sacrificing accuracy. For many shops, it becomes one of the busiest stretches of the year, especially as customers prepare vehicles for road trips, fleet demands increase, and everyday maintenance work continues rolling in.

At the same time, the challenges facing technicians are continuing to evolve. Modern vehicles are becoming more software-driven, diagnostic workflows are becoming more layered, and procedures that once seemed straightforward now require additional verification, calibration, or specialized tooling. The pressure to stay efficient while keeping up with changing vehicle technology has never really slowed down. If anything, it continues accelerating.

That’s why preparation matters so much heading into the summer months.

For technicians, that preparation can mean reassessing shop workflow, updating diagnostic equipment, improving organization, or investing in tools that reduce unnecessary downtime. Even small improvements in efficiency can have a major impact during busy periods. Saving a few minutes on a repair process may not seem significant in the moment, but across multiple jobs each day, those time savings add up quickly.

It’s also a reminder of how important training and education have become across the industry. Vehicle systems continue advancing rapidly, particularly in areas like diagnostics, ADAS, software integration, and electrical repair. Technicians who stay curious, continue learning, and remain adaptable are often the ones best positioned for long-term success. More importantly, they become valuable resources within their shops as repair complexity increases.

Another trend becoming increasingly clear is the growing focus on versatility. Shops are looking for products that do more than just complete a single task. Whether it’s diagnostic platforms capable of broader coverage, storage solutions that improve workflow, or tools designed to handle multiple applications, efficiency-driven purchasing decisions continue shaping the market.

As the busy season gets underway, we hope this issue offers useful insight, practical ideas, and products worth considering as shops continue navigating another demanding summer in the bay.
