Safety should always come first, especially when working with hot objects.
Jan. 23, 2026
  1. Wear pants to protect your legs, safety glasses, and don't wear polyester clothing.
  2. Work in a clean area free of oils, grease, and anything that is flammable.
  3. Don't eat greasy foods while you solder.
  4. Solder slowly and stay focused.
  5. Always use the stand supplied with the soldering iron after each use and grab the cool end when you use it.
  6. Remember: It takes a long time for the soldering iron to cool off.
  7. Always unplug, turn off the electrical switch, or turn off the butane switch on the soldering iron when you're done.
  8. Only put away your soldering iron when it has cooled fully.
  9. Don't burn yourself.
  10. Don't burn anything else.

Note: When you do burn yourself – because you will – be sure to have first aid supplies nearby:

  • First Aid Kit
  • Bandages
  • Cold Packs
  • Aloe Vera

And when you burn something else, be sure to have a fire extinguisher close by.
