- Wear pants to protect your legs, safety glasses, and don't wear polyester clothing.
- Work in a clean area free of oils, grease, and anything that is flammable.
- Don't eat greasy foods while you solder.
- Solder slowly and stay focused.
- Always use the stand supplied with the soldering iron after each use and grab the cool end when you use it.
- Remember: It takes a long time for the soldering iron to cool off.
- Always unplug, turn off the electrical switch, or turn off the butane switch on the soldering iron when you're done.
- Only put away your soldering iron when it has cooled fully.
- Don't burn yourself.
- Don't burn anything else.
Note: When you do burn yourself – because you will – be sure to have first aid supplies nearby:
- First Aid Kit
- Bandages
- Cold Packs
- Aloe Vera
And when you burn something else, be sure to have a fire extinguisher close by.
